Writing is like Breathing

You must breathe. It's involuntary. Your body will do it without your permission, however you can choose how you breathe. You can breathe deeply and slowly, raise your chest and fill your lungs. You can inhale the scent of flowers or gasp for breath after a fit of laughter. How you do it is up to you.

If you're a writer, you must write. It will happen. But how you choose to write is up to you. Will you gasp out memos and emails? Will you sneeze text messages and Facebook updates? Or will you slow down and gather in the perfume of prose, well crafted? Will you close your eyes, raise your chest and fill yourself with meaningful words?
